  2. Establish frameworks that outline systems, policies, and processes for protecting patient data.   
  3. Update software and hardware (including operating systems, antivirus software, and firewalls) and perform data back-ups regularly. Be sure to test the reliability of data restoration.  
  4. Use end-to-end encryption and two-factor authentication protocols. 
  5. Clean out your inbox and empty trash routinely. 
  6. Use unique passwords (consider passphrases) and change them often. 
  7. Obtain express consent from patients, especially where AI is used. 
  8. Be cautious when visiting websites (look for ‘https://’ or a ‘lock’ symbol in URLs) and never open email attachments or links from unknown or suspicious sources. 
  9. Only use secure wireless networks (no public wi-fi).
