OMD Educates: Digital Health Virtual Symposium is upon us!

Chandi Chandrasena, Chief Medical Officer, OntarioMD. MD CCFP FCFP

I’m super excited for our Digital Health Virtual Symposium this Friday, June 14 (fingers crossed the technology works!).

I wanted to share some thoughts on how this program came together, and why it’s relevant to community-based clinicians.

OntarioMD returned to hosting our in-person event last September, with record-breaking turnout, but some feedback indicated the difficulty of, and in some cases, inability to travel to Toronto. So, we decided, in addition to hosting our in-person, two-day conference this September (quick plug: register to attend and hear special keynote speaker, Hon. Dr. Jane Philpott, and enjoy 15% early bird savings!), we would offer our first Digital Health Virtual Symposium, with the benefit of attending from the comfort of your home, office or device connected to the internet.

The symposium will feature a special keynote address by Mr. André Picard, award-winning health reporter and columnist from The Globe and Mail. He will give his take on the health-care landscape with a digital health lens!

Following the keynote, the planning committee arranged the symposium with four different content streams.

  1. AI:  We’ve got you covered on this popular topic with three important sessions including mine, Is AI the Answer?, plus two other great sessions from OMD Physician Peer Leader, Dr. Kevin Samson on Streamlining Healthcare: Harnessing AI Scribes for Physician Efficiency and Well-being and physician expert, Dr. Ian Pun on All in Action: Real World Applications of Large Language Models in Clinical Practice.
  1. Clinic Staff: This stream is always popular, and we’ve incorporated three sessions from a clinic staff perspective which may also be useful for physicians to hear.
  1. Specialists: I’m excited about the two sessions from a full-scope specialist perspective.
  1. Privacy & Security and Billing: Looking for a great way to spend a Friday afternoon? We’ve saved some of our most popular sessions for that time! Learn about privacy and security from our General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, Ariane Siegel and billing (everyone’s favourite topic!) in a co-presentation by the OMA and OntarioMD:

Plus, we’ve got other great sessions from OMA Insurance on Securing Your Insurance in the Cyber Age and a special presentation from Dr. Sarah Smith, The Charting Coach on Finding Time in the Day and Creating Capacity: A Practical Approach, to help you find the joy in medicine again!

Don’t forget the conference is CME-accredited for 6.5 hours of group learning for family physicians by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the college’s Ontario Chapter and specialists by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.

Register Today (Part of a group with over three people? Buy three, get one free!)

Can’t make it on June 14? It’s best to still register – you’ll have access to the recordings, including Q&As, for up to four months after the symposium.

Please leave a comment on this blog with your pre- and post-symposium thoughts! Don’t forget to join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #omddhcvirtual!

Look forward to seeing you this Friday!
